MoRTH has undertaken a Logistics Efficiency Enhancement Programme (LEEP) initiative to improve the efficiency of logistics in India which was the genesis of approval of Bharatmala Pariyojana. Among the solution themes identified under the LEEP initiative, development of Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) is one of the key solution themes. To implement this theme, MoRTH is mandated to undertake development of 35 MMLPs which will enable reduction of transportation costs as well as reduce CO2 emissions.
Nagpur, being centrally located in the country and well connected through road and rail, provides location advantages for establishing industries, warehouses and associated logistic facilities to link to ports. Considering these aspects, Nagpur was selected as one of the 35 locations in the country for development of MMLP.
